Every individual who wants to become a helicopter pilot takes the first step on this career path by first taking the necessary courses from a suitable training center. Helicopter piloting involves the acquisition of the knowledge and skills needed to manage the aircraft from the ground. The process usually consists of theoretical lectures and practical flight training. Theoretical knowledge covers aviation legislation, weather, navigation and flight rules. Practical training, on the other hand, is provided by a flight school or academy and is necessary for the candidate to be able to fly the helicopter safely.
Helicopter pilot training is usually taught by private flight schools. This training is designed to provide the student with all the essential knowledge and skills necessary to obtain PPL (H), Private Pilot License, or CPL (H), i.e. Commercial Pilot License. The duration of training varies according to the preferences of the student and the schedule of the school. Often, however, it has a busy schedule and students are expected to complete a specific flight hour experience
Licenses for helicopter piloting are issued at the end of the training process. The PPL (H) license authorizes private helicopter flights to the island, while the CPL (H) license allows commercial flights. Once licensed, pilots can develop additional competencies such as obtaining a type certificate and IR (Instrument Rating). In addition, the ATPL (H), aka Airline Carrier Pilot License, can be the next target for pilots who want to continue their careers in airlines.
Helicopter pilots can find jobs in different industries. These include tasks such as emergency assistance services, tourist flights, fighting forest fires, film and photography, air ambulance and VIP transport. In addition, helicopter pilots can also pursue careers as captains or co-pilots in airlines. Since piloting is a profession that requires continuous training and development, the career journey of pilots is full of constant innovations and advances
